Nature’s Uninvited Guests

Hippos in South America, crocodiles in Crete, green parrots in Greece! With our way of life, we have upset the balance of our ecosystems, and this is now evident in all corners of the world. In recent years, the local flora and fauna of each place has been significantly threatened by the spread of many invasive organisms outside their traditional range, due to human activities, with impacts on human societies and on the natural environment.
In the educational program for Kindergarten, Primary and High School students “Visitors that became Invaders”, children will engage in conversation that will spark their curiosity, learning about endemic and exotic animals, plants and organisms and learning through play to distinguish visitors from permanent residents! Using the exciting world of Greek biodiversity as a tool, the purpose of the program is to inspire the next generation to take care of our environment and communities, learning how we can all be part of the effort to protect our unique ecosystems!

The program supports the courses of: Environmental Studies (1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th Grade), Geography (5th & 6th Grade), 6th Grade Physics, Biology (B & C ́ High School), as well as the Greek Language (1st High School & 5th Elementary).
